A silky puree of dried split peas or favas from the northern Rif — poured hot, hollowed with olive oil, cumin and chilli, and eaten with khobz at dawn.

  • 300g dried split favas or peas
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chilli
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Lemon
